The Spedale di Figline Valdarno was a hospital founded in 1399 by Ser Ristoro di Iacopo Serristori and is located near the center of the village.
In the Ancient Apothecary, established in the first half of the 16th century and first renovated in 1724, the period furnishings are preserved, along with additions from the last century - ceramic and glass materials from the 15th to 19th centuries and some ancient paintings.
The Antica Spezieria is a real gem and is the ultimate expression of integration between artistic, cultural and medical health heritage.
The wooden coffered ceiling, decorated with semicircular elements, diamond shapes and Greek wave patterns and loosely inspired by medieval style, is very distinctive.
Also very interesting is the collection of 16th and 17th-century majolica vases and several 17th - 18th century glass medicinal herb jars, which were used to store chemical and medicinal materials and compounds, as indicated on the 19th-century labels.
Some of the vases also have the stylistic features of the Montelupo workshops.
In addition to the vases, there are also glasses, goblets, flasks and bottles of various types and the so-called nassa, a blown-glass cruet used for holding ointments suitable for evaporation.
Portraits of Serristori family members have been placed at the top of the shelves.
These were made in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and are copies of portraits that were in the family collection kept in the majestic Florentine palace.
