Once set in the basement of the Medici Villa la Ferdinanda, since 2011 the Archaeological museum has been hosted in the historical centre of town. The route is organized on two floors and starts with the artefacts coming from the fortified area of Pietramarina and the various settlements of Artimino, identified in the "Field of the Pheasants".
The other part is dedicated to the world of the dead and starts with the tomb of the "Prato Rosello Warrior", dating back to the end of the eighth century BC, followed by the other tombs of the Prato Rosello necropolis (the tumulus of Montefortini and the tomb of Boschetti), as well as the splendid set of funerary objects of Grumaggio, including a large Etruscan bowl and banquet service in bronze, all in excellent condition.
A large space is also dedicated to the Comeana necropolis, with the Boschetti mound and the majestic Montefortini mound with its two tombs that have enclosed exquisite finds, including two censers, finely decorated dishes and cups, an extraordinary cup of turquoise glass and an exceptional set of ivory objects: stained platters, statuettes of female and male, of fantastic and real animals.
The Archaeological Museum of Artimino proposes a series of didactic activities every year specifically designed for schoolchildren and families. The aim is to divulge the history of this territory and encourage learning through interactive instruments.
