The Archeological Museum of Mugello and Val di Sieve in Dicomano is located inside the Palazzo Comunale and tells the story of the origins of the territory through the rich archeological and historical evidence of the entire area of Mugello, Alto Mugello and Valle del Sieve. Here, in fact, there are finds belonging to a period of time that goes from prehistoric times to the Renaissance.
The exhibit includes the fruits of the excavations carried out in the Etruscan sites of San Martino a Frascole in Dicomano, Poggio Colla in Vicchio and "I Monti" in San Piero a Sieve.
Other certainly interesting materials are the cippus and the funerary stelae of the "fiesolano" type, found in various locations. The latter date back to the Etruscan population of the 8th-5th century B.C.: they were part of the monumental funerary equipment of the wealthier classes, who usually used decorated stones or stelae to indicate the presence of their own sepulchre.
In the picture gallery, you can see prehistoric finds from the territory of Palazzuolo sul Senio, from the town of Barberino di Mugello (Bilancino Lake), Dicomano and other localities, as well as medieval and Renaissance materials from Borgo San Lorenzo, Cafaggiolo, Barberino di Mugello and San Martino a Frascole.
The Museum plays close attention to the youngest visitors: in fact, it proposes a lecture hall, with the boards "Ogni cosa al suo tempo" (A time for everything) and "Scrivi in Etrusco" (Write in Etruscan), through which young visitors are introduced to archaeology and to the understanding of Etruscan history.
