Big Bench of Comano
A view of the mountains of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park and the valleys of Lunigiana
The Big Benches, or giant benches, are large, colourful, outsized benches that offer incredible vantage points over the landscape and the surrounding environment.
Located in vantage points with breathtaking views, they come to life as part of the Big Bench Community Project, a project launched in 2010 that has seen the installation of more than 195 benches throughout Italy. The aim of this project is to offer a different point of view on the territory, inviting inhabitants and visitors to rediscover the local beauty from a different perspective.
In Comano in Lunigiana is bench N° 153 installed in 2021 on the road leading to the Lagastrello Pass, an ancient pass between Tuscany and Emilia.
The big bench of Comano
Sitting and admiring the view is a relaxing and exciting experience that opens the senses to this wonderful realm of biodiversity.
The view sweeps from the mountains of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park to the Apuan Alps.
At certain times of the day, the giant bench is an excellent spot for watching wildlife and listening to the sounds echoing from the ancient medieval villages and pastures with cows and horses reared in the wild.
The bench is also an excellent starting point for visiting the territory of the municipality of Comano, characterised by the presence of stupendous medieval villages such as Torsana and Camporaghena with masterfully carved stone portals, the remains of Comano Castle and those of Groppo San Pietro, and the paths leading to the ridges of the Apennine mountains from which it is possible to see the sea.
