Casa Martelli in Florence is located in via Zannetti, a street that was once known by the evocative name of via della Forca (gallows road), and is housed in a noble 18th-century palace.
The house-museum preserves its orginal furnishings, with objects, tapestries, antique decorations and paintings that reveal the collecting interest and taste of its owners, without any post-death changes. In fact, the family collection today represents the last Florentine example, in public hands, of a collection established between the 17th and 18th centuries.
The rooms, some used for private use, others used for social events, play with monochrome and are of great charm: the "country" rooms (stanze "paese") on the ground floor, the elegant staircase, the yellow and red halls, the chapel, the dance hall. On the main floor the magnificent picture gallery stands out, with works by authors such as Piero di Cosimo, Domenico Beccafumi, Salvator Rosa, Luca Giordano and northern painters.
