The small Romanesque church of Saints Filippo and Giacomo (St. Philip and St. James) dominates the village of Castellina, in the territory north of Serravalle Pistoiese. The village, in the mid-13th century, had 71 families and was surrounded by walls and equipped with a fortress.
The church was founded in 1159, was part of the castle of Castellina Molazzani and was directly connected to the fortress, which has now disappeared.
The building has undergone various interventions since the first half of the 17th century, which is why the structure is now in a 17th-century style. However, a few sections of the facade and exterior walls remain from the original church. Inside, on the choir wall, you can admire the Madonna with Child in Glory and the Saints Lawrence, James, Michael the Archangel, John the Baptist, Philip and Anthony the Abbot, realized by artist Alessio Gemignani from Pistoia in 1628.
