Church of St. Michele in Serravalle Pistoiese
The Romanesque-style building seems to be mentioned for the first time in 764
A Romanesque church dedicated to St. Michele (St. Michael) is located in Serravalle Pistoiese along the Way of San Jacopo. It has some elements common to the 13th-century Pistoia architecture, such as a semicircular apse and corbelled crowning on which anthropomorphic figures are engraved.
The church appears to be first documented in 764, the only evidence from the Lombard period relating to Serravalle.
During the 17th century, the facade was modified with the addition of the Baroque window. The arcade dates from the same period and, leaning against the southern flank of the building, ties in well with the surrounding urban fabric.
Moving inside, on the left wall of the church, you can admire the triptych depicting the Madonna and Child between the Saints Hippolytus, Jacob, Michael and Stephen. Dated 1439, the work is attributed to Bartolomeo di Andrea Bochi.
On the right wall, near the altar, remains part of an interesting early 14th-century fresco depicting The Miracles of St. Blaise.
