The Coalman Museum is located in Baggio (a small hamlet of Pistoia) and was established to safeguard the memory of local traditions. It collects and exhibits in two rooms tools, objects, clothes and instruments related to the life and traditions of the mountain people, particularly the woodcutter and charcoal burner's trade. In fact, in Baggio, as in many localities in the area, the figure of the charcoal burner was widespread in the first half of the 20th century.
Reconstructed outside the museum are the charcoal kiln, with an open section so that the arrangement of the wood can be seen, and a hut, devoted to charcoal production, where the charcoal burners moved, sometimes with the whole family, during the season away from home.
