A few kilometers from Bagno a Ripoli, on a hill overlooking Florence and the Valdarno, the Convent of L'Incontro dates back to 1716 and was built by St. Leonardo of Porto Maurizio as a place of recollection for the Franciscan friars.
Thanks to its dominant position, the Lombards also built a fortification there, and later a group of hermits, of whom we have no more traces, built a refuge there: it was on this very chapel that the Convent was built.
Its appearance remained unchanged until the bombings of World War II, when, having become an outpost of the Germans, the building witnessed the battle between the Germans and the British.
The Convent was thus rebuilt on its own rubble and took the form it still has today, including what remains of the former Longobard fort.
The place is available for both spiritual retreats and cultural events.
