The medieval heart of Casciana Terme

In the Petraia district, the Corte Aquisana represents the ancient medieval heart of Casciana Terme. Its existence is first documented in a deed from 1024, with which the Ferolfi nobles donated some land to the monastery of Carigi, referring to the Court as Corte de Aquis.

Initially the feudal domain of the Cadolingi Counts, the Court later came under the control of the Republic of Pisa, becoming an important organizational and management center for agriculture in the surrounding area.

At the heart of the Court stood the Torre Aquisana, a strategic structure used as a lookout and for defense purposes. This tower was probably visually connected with other fortified settlements such as the Castello di Vivaia, Collemontanino and the Rocche di Parlascio.

To this day, the Court buildings retain original stone and brick elements, offering tangible evidence of medieval architecture.
In addition to the historical value, Corte Aquisana is a symbol of the cultural identity of Casciana Terme, which is deeply linked to agricultural traditions and historic defensive structures.
