An ancient thermal establishment in the heart of Lunigiana and the Apuan Alps

The Equi Thermal Baths are located on the northern edge of the Apuan Alps, at the foot of the charming village of Equi Terme. The spring, already known in Ancient Roman times, was analyzed in the 18th century and used in a systematic way from 1894 on, with the construction of the historical thermal establishment, ordered by Engineer Carlo Tonelli, in order to use Equi’s waters for therapeutic purposes. Unique and extraordinary natural mineral water flows from the spring, which retains an extraordinary healing and regenerative power all year round.

The therapeutic properties of the waters

The waters of the Equi Thermal Baths flow from underground at an average temperature of 23°C (73.4°F) and, for this reason, are called hypothermal waters. They are also rich in mineral salts and, in fact, contain an amount of chlorides, sodium and sulfates significantly higher than 200 mg/l and, on average, calcium and magnesium values of above 150 mg/l and 50 mg/l, respectively. For this reason, they fall into the category of salt-sulfate-alkaline-earthy mineral waters. Only in the summer period, they become enriched with sulfur.

They are particularly recommended for treating respiratory and ear, nose and throat disorders, skin disorders and musculoskeletal system disorders, as well as chronic vascular and venous diseases. They also facilitate the penetration of minerals essential for the body's functioning.

Thermal establishment and services

The thermal park, open from June to October, is structured on two levels (the ground level is dedicated to inhalation treatments and the second to balneotherapy and sauna), with two continuous-jet thermal pools, one of which is reserved for children, and the elegant Hotel Terme di Equi with an internal restaurant.

The Equi Thermal Baths are located in Lunigiana, a strip of land that lies on the border between 3 regions: Liguria, Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. In this area, the Geo-Archeo-Adventure Park of the Equi Caves is worth a visit.

This park offers various activities for a diversified public: visits for all to the karst cave, which was formed over thousands of years by the action of water that created tunnels, wells, rooms and concretions of all kinds, and to the ApuanGeoLab, the archaeological museum and the prehistoric site of Tecchia; meanwhile, lovers of fast-paced activities can try a zip-line flight over the stream, try out the rock climbing gym, set up at the fascinating cliff at the entrance to the caves, or venture onto the “speleo-adventure” trail.
