Industrial heritage is renewed: the evolution of the wool mill into a hub of innovation and culture

The former Lanificio Affortunati (wool mill), located at Via Bologna 243 in Prato, is a symbolic example of post-World War II industrial architecture. Founded in 1946, the wool mill was in operation until 1989, significantly contributing to Prato’s famous textile industry.

In March 2021, the building was acquired by the Beste Group, a big name in the textile business. The renovation project aimed to preserve the historical identity of the building while integrating modern elements to accommodate a range of functions. The renovation maintained the original industrial architecture while complying with current safety and energy-saving regulations.

Named the Beste Hub, this new hangout houses various technical divisions, offices, showrooms and a 450-square-meter event space, which is also accessible to the public in Prato.

This project is an example of how industrial heritage can be enhanced, transforming a historic building into a dynamic center that combines tradition and innovation. The Beste Hub not only preserves the historical memory of the wool mill but also contributes to the revitalization of Prato’s urban fabric by providing multifunctional spaces for the community.
