The Zoological Garden of Pistoia, open since 1970, is a 7-hectare park home to 600 animals including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, in an environment that seeks to recreate their natural habitat as much as possible.
The Pistoia Zoo is an ideal place for nature lovers wanting to learn about animals and perfect for a family day out with the kids. A visit to the Zoological Garden of Pistoia allows young and old to meet animals while learning about them and how to protect them.
Among the various species that can be encountered are brown bears, lynx, tigers, lions, giraffes, colorful parrots and the rare lemurs of Madagascar. You can likewise admire a markhor, the large wild goat of Afghanistan, a red panda, African penguins and many other species that come to this zoo through European breeding programs for endangered species.
The Zoological Garden offers experiences where visitors can enjoy encounters with the Aldabra giant tortoise, African penguins or ring-tailed lemurs during thrilling night visits or magical storytelling around the campfire, dedicated to families with young children.
The Pistoia Zoo is also involved in various nature conservation projects, such as protecting the African penguin in South Africa, the northern buff-cheeked gibbon in Vietnam and the red panda in Nepal. Visiting the Pistoia Zoo is thus a way to directly contribute to nature conservation.
