The Mineral Museum in Campiglia Marittima is located inside Pretorio Palace, in the historic center of this charming little village. It was opened in 1968 thanks to a group of citizens, passionate about minerals and mining culture, who established the Circolo Mineralogico Toscano - C.M.T. (Tuscan Mineral Club), the first group of its kind in Italy.
In the permanent exhibition one can admire mainly minerals extracted during the exploitation of the rich local deposits, but also samples from the Etruscan Coast, as in the case of Ilvaite.
Over the years the collection has grown to include examples of minerals from other Italian regions and also specimens from North and South Africa and South America, such as Pyrite from Peru.
The Museum also preserves a small piece of asteroid in the underground floor.
