Museum and Library of the Resistance, Sansepolcro
A way of never forgetting the history of anti-fascism and the Second World War
The Museum and Library of the Resistance in Sansepolcro was founded to commemorate the values of the Resistance from a historical and cultural perspective as well as to support research and protect documents about anti-fascism, concentration camps and political imprisonment by the regime.
The museum remembers the tragic passage of the front through Sansepolcro and the events that made the town become a turning point for the Second World War. The space hosts a permanent exhibition titled “Why the Resistance” showcasing 40 explanatory panels and a collection of period weapons, objects donated by individuals and material from the Renicci fascist prison camp in the Anghiari municipality.
The library next to the museum is stocked with approximately 2,500 books about local history, the Resistance and present-day literature, as well as a collection of documents dating to 1920-45 and a journal archive featuring publications from the fascist and post-war periods.
The museum is temporarily closed for maintenance.
