Sacred art coming from churches in the territory are on display

The Museum of the Collegiate Church of San Giovanni Battista is located in the archpriesthood in the historic centre of Chianciano Terme. Founded as the Sala d’Arte Antica in 1923, the museum vaunts a small collection of sacred furnishings and paintings that range from the 13th to 18th centuries and are owned by the parish, the city administration and other churches in the area.

Some works worth noting are the large crucifix by Segna di Bonaventura made in the early 14th century, a wooden Madonna from the school of Nicola Pisano and a beautiful polyptych of the Madonna and Saints by Maestro di Chianciano.

A small altarpiece depicting St. John the Baptist Holding Chianciano is also interesting, painted in the 16th century and showing how the city once looked. Various other paintings, silver pieces and sacred vestments ranging from the 1200s to 1800s can also be found in the church.
