The Museum of Sacred Art at the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria is housed in the church’s sacristy in Figline Valdarno, which dates to the 13th century: designated a collegiate church in the 15th century, it underwent extensive restoration and changes over the centuries, and today conserves numerous works of art.
The collection comprises a display of artworks that are part of the church’s liturgical holdings, set up in the two rooms that can be reached through the sacristy, as well as artworks conserved in the collegiate church, like the splendid 14th-century panel painting of the Madonna and Child by Maestro di Figline and the statue of St. Joseph by Andrea della Robbia.
Visitors can also admire two panel paintings of angels by Domenico Ghirlandaio that framed Giotto’s Madonna and Child and The Martyrdom of St. Lawrence by Ludovico Cigoli.
