OCA Oasy Contemporary Art & Architecture, in fact has two souls that are evident in its name: that of the nature reserve and that of the space for contemporary art and architecture.
The place containing this artistic project is Oasi Dynamo, a WWF affiliated nature reserve, located in the heart of Tuscany, in the municipality of San Marcello Piteglio. Over 1000 hectares overlooking the Pistoia Apennines, an ideal place for rare plants and wild animals to grow and live in complete freedom. As well as the environmental recovery and conservation activities in the area, over the years Oasi Dynamo has also opened up to hospitality, eco-tourism, spreading of sustainable environmental culture and now also to art with the OCA project.
Oasy Contemporary Art & Architecture contains an art itinerary almost two kilometers long, surrounded by nature, at a height of 900 meters, with site-specific works and installations, created by some of the world’s most important artists and architects. It also offers an exhibition space dedicated to art and photography exhibitions, created in what was once a stable.
OCA offers visitors a new world, waiting to be discovered and experienced together, in which man and what he creates - be it an artistic or architectural product - live together with the environment and nature and, in fact, constantly interact with them.
Officially inaugurated in 2023 with “Home of the World”, an installation by David Svensson, and with the photographic exhibition “La Grande Oasi. The way we live, now” by Massimo Vitali, the project continues with the inauguration of the exhibition “Love Letter” by Pascale Marthine Tayou in 2024 and will be enriched with environmental installations by Alejandro Aravena, Stefano Boeri and Michele De Lucchi with Mariangela Gualtieri, fuse*, Kengo Kuma, Davide Quayola, Diana Scherer, Matteo Thun and Edoardo Tresoldi.
To visit OCA Oasy Contemporary Art inside the Oasi Dynamo reserve, leave your car at the Croce di Piteglio car park and cross the woods on a pleasant 3-kilometer walk that will mark the beginning of your immersive experience. Once you reach the clearing, you will find the circular path with site-specific works outdoors and the exhibition space with the temporary exhibitions.
At the reserve’s Visitor Center, the Casa Luigi restaurant is also open for lunch or a snack, offering the best of Tuscan cuisine with ingredients and products locally-grown right there at the Reserve.
