Located at Piazza dei Macelli 4 in Prato, this facility was created converting the former Public Slaughterhouses, buildings constructed between 1930 and 1970 that underwent an extraordinary metamorphosis to become a focal point for the city’s youth.
The complex covers an area of about 8,000 square meters and includes five buildings that, since 1999, have been used for youth affairs, maintaining public ownership and promoting active community participation. Entering via the archway means stepping into spaces such as the Punto Giovani Europa (Young Europe Point), the Cantieri Culturali (Cultural Worksites) and the Officina Teen (Teen Workshop). These areas house a 500-person event hall, a dance hall, a theater hall, open spaces, rehearsal rooms, co-working spaces, a café-bistro, a web radio studio plus venues for youth associations.
The redevelopment of the former Public Slaughterhouses into a workshop for youth represents the perfect union of past and future, where historic industrial structures have been adapted to meet the contemporary needs of young people. This project not only preserves the city’s architectural heritage but also enriches it with new functions, rendering this a place for new generations to meet, express themselves and grow.
