Palazzo Guadagni Sacrati Strozzi is one of the most significant expressions of Florentine civil architecture of the Baroque period, while its interiors, rich in frescoes and fine decorations, testify to the taste of the Florentine aristocracy between the 17th and 19th centuries.
The palace, which came from the legacy of Marquis Uberto Sacrati Strozzi, is located behind the apses of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, in Piazza Duomo, and was acquired in 1988 by the Region of Tuscany to be used as the seat of the Presidency of the Regional Council.
Every room is a triumph of decoration. Among the gems is the Salone delle Feste, on the first floor, created for the wedding of Giovan Battista Guadagni and Teresa Torrigiani (1757), which features elegant stucco and monochrome ornamentation illustrating mythological themes and recalling the subjects of weddings and love. The style, dubbed "Barocco da camera", was widely used in Florentine aristocratic residences of the time.
In the Pegasus Room on the ground floor, a new stained-glass skylight has been made, at the center of which is depicted the winged horse coat of arms of the Region of Tuscany.
