At Palazzo Pretorio a collection of fossils and archaeological remains, casts and models

The Paleontology Museum in Poggibonsi was opened in the medieval Palazzo Pretorio due to volunteers from the Laboratorio "F.C. Marmocchi" with the support of the municipality. Its aim is to study and draw attention to the area’s paleontology, archaeology and nature. The museum is split into three sections: Paleontology, Human Evolution, Archaeology and Natural History

Fossils are on display, including macro- and microfossils that can be examined with a magnifying glass, animal bones from whales, horses and sirens, the Neolithic tomb of Cucule di Staggia with skeleton remains of two adults and a child.

The paleontological collection started thanks to a donation by volunteer members and consists of fossils from the Valdarno area. The Archaeology collection conserves the remains from the Cucule Tomb, left in deposits by the Superintendence of Archaeology. The Human Evolution section shows the evolution of our species with information panels and casts.
