In the municipality of Fivizzano, on the slopes of Pizzo d'Uccello, more precisely 2 km from the small village of Viano, is the Parish Church of San Martino (St. Martin).
This parish church has very ancient origins and a strong connection with the area. In fact, even today the area that historically belonged to its jurisdiction is called Pioero, a word derived from "piviere", that is, of the ‘pieve’, the Italian word for ‘parish church’.
Dating back to the 8th century AD, it underwent many remodels over the following centuries, which is why now the prevailing style is Baroque. In the facade the original Romanesque layout is visible, with the original exposed stonework and the upper plaster of the 18th-century reconstructions; above the entrance portal is a marble bas-relief depicting the Virgin between two Saints, surmounted by the 15th-century altarpiece relocated here from the high altar in the same period.
The interior with three wide naves holds numerous white marble statues including a 15th-century Madonna and Child. Detached from the parish church is the stone bell tower with a square base built in 1671.
