The Poggio Valicaia park is located in the hills of Scandicci and is the perfect place for those in search of peace and relaxation, fresh air and a bit of relief from the summer heat thanks to the extensive greenery, making it a favoured destination for sporty people, families and couples.
Five kilometres of trails wind through the park for all kinds of visitors, and there’s a picnic area with tables and safe grills for BBQs with friends. The park also offers activities for discovering the plant and animal life in the area, with particular attention placed on forest trees. And there’s no shortage of educational workshops and themed open days for scholars and curious visitors.
The park is an open-air museum, boasting contemporary art throughout. Here, you’ll find installations and sculptures by Dario Bartolini, Italo Zuffi, Maria Dompé, Paolo Staccioli and Valentino Moradei. As an artistic space, the garden is part of a network of similar areas, partnered with places like the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield, the Skulpturlandskap in Bodø and the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo.
With its nearly 50 hectares, Poggio Valicaia also has a small lake, a belvedere for looking out at Florence and a space for hosting conferences and private events. For romantics, the park is also available for weddings, perfect for those who want to be surrounded by nature on their big day.
