When the green vegetation meets the blue sea

The Roccamare pine forest, in the hamlet of the same name, in Castiglione della Pescaia, is a very special jewel: a dense green blanket of rich vegetation stretching for over 8 kilometers (5 miles) and facing the crystal clear blue sea.

The dense vegetation of the pine forest is accompanied by the flow of the Tonfone, a short stream that runs through it and flows into the sea right next to the Roccamare beaches. The entire area is characterized by maritime pines, stone pines, Mediterranean scrub and the sea making it the best destination for spending a restful afternoon in peace, away from city life.

Precisely because of this combination of the green wilderness and the bright blue sea, the Roccamare pine forest was a favorite vacation spot for Italo Calvino, who used this as the setting for his book "Palomar", which he wrote right here.
