The church of Santa Maria Assunta is located in the main square of Bientina. Although the church looks very simple from the outside, its 18th-century interior is very sumptuous with stucco decorations and various oil canvases on the altars by Tuscan painters from the 17th and 18th centuries. A unique place of worship features relics of Saint Valentine the Martyr, the venerated patron saint of the town.
Attached to the church, it is also possible to visit the Museum of Sacred Art which contains a collection of more than 120 precious religious objects including trays, candlesticks, chalices, lamps and monstrance’s, all of which were made by famous silversmiths from Lucca, Pisa and Florence, but also from the Neapolitan and French school. The museum is much appreciated by experts for its collection of furnishings from the 16th to 17th centuries. Completing the exhibition, there are 18th-century relics and liturgical vestments in exquisite fabrics.
