A centuries-old church near Capannori enriched with 16th-century works of art

The Parish Church of San Lorenzo is located in Segromigno in Monte, near Capannori. The church was mentioned for the first time in 816 and became an independent parish church in 872. The building as it appears today dates to 12th century renovations, however, when the bell tower was also built. The apse and two side chapels were constructed in the 1700s.

The church is home to various artworks that were moved here in the 16th century. These include sculptures and paintings, like the freestanding Angel by Andrea di Pacino Ugolini, a painting by Gaspare Mannucci depicting St. Lawrence and two paintings by Luca da Vellano of the Holy Bishop and Holy Martyr. The painting of the Madonna and Child with Saints Lawrence and Theresa is attributed to Francesco Dinelli. The marble pulpit and tabernacle by Baccio di Montelupo is also worth admiring.
