Started by the Swiss artist Kurt Laurenz Metzler in 1995, the sculpture park houses more than fifty works, placed in the large green space surrounding his home-studio in Iesa, in the municipality of Monticiano, a few steps from the Petriolo Thermal Baths and about 25 km from the center of Siena.
The garden features several works from the varied artistic output of Kurt Laurenz Metzler, who has explored different materials, colors and forms over the years. In particular, the featured sculptures are mostly brightly colored hominids made of marble, aluminum, bronze, and painted resins.
The artist depicted urban bystanders in attitudes of everyday life, almost as if they were characters in a "street theater," as Enrico Crispolti, art critic and creator of the garden together with Metzler's wife, described them. In fact, the works do not interact with the space, but occupy it by exploiting nature as a real stage space.
