The Società di Esecutori di Pie Disposizioni Museum in Siena is comprised of two buildings that formed part of what was once the convent of S. Maria degli Anglei, known as ‘del Santuccio’. Today these buildings are the administrative headquarters of the Società di Esecutori di Pie Disposizioni: the Society’s main meeting room is what used to be the nun’s choir-room and sacristy.
The museum houses a small, but beautiful, collection of 14th-15th century panel paintings and works by important Sienese artists. There are plans to expand the exhibition into the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli del Santuccio, which is connected to the museum.
Some of the most notable works on show are the paintings attributed to Duccio di Boninsegna and his circle. Similarly special are works by other famous 14th century Sienese artists like Niccolò di Ser Sozzo and Andrea Vanni as well as works by 15th century painters like Sano di Pietro and Guidoccio Cozzarelli. Two frescoes by Rutilio Manetti (1610) that made up the original decoration of the sacristy are also on show.
The Bologna Buonsignori collection also forms a part of the museum. This collection is made up of works painted between the 15th and 20th centuries and of objects of interest like bronzes, ivory, silverware, coins and medals along with ceramics and an archeological collection.
