The Church of the Madonna della Neve is a small sacred building dating back to the 15th century located in Santa Fiora, a village on the slopes of Monte Amiata. It's located right next to the large pool called Peschiera, from which it takes the nickname of "Church of the Pool".
While the name of the church is a mystery, the charm of this church is enhanced by its unique location and an unusual floor.
Where the Church of the Madonna della Neve stands today, a stream and medieval road crossed in the 14th century which probably supplied the artisanal workshops with water. The course of the river was diverted to build the church and directed towards Peschiera. It seems that this gave way to a series of miracles, and a small Madonna was placed in a tabernacle which no longer exists today. By mutual agreement and driven by the series of graces received, the citizens, the men of the church and the Sforza family (who dominated these lands) were behind the construction of the church as it still appears today. Its unique point lies in the partly glass floor that allows you to see the centuries-old road and the exact point where the source of the Fiora is located, all immersed in in a mystical and magical atmosphere.
