The Pieve di San Pietro di Offiano

The Pieve di Offiano is located in Casola in Lunigiana, on the border between Lunigiana and Garfagnana. The gentleness of the landscape, consisting of green pastureland surrounded by arable land and rows of vines behind the surrounding hills, instills deep peace in the visitor. Important because it is located along a variant of the Via Francigena, toward the Tea Pass, the parish church was probably founded around the 11th and 12th centuries. Today it appears as a Baroque work, due to the renovation it underwent in the mid-18th century.

In the 15th century it was embellished with a baptismal font, dated 1452, now preserved in the Museum of the Territory of the Alta Valle Aulella at Casola in Lunigiana. Also inside, a portal bears the Malaspina symbol of the dry thornbush and a canvas depicting the Last Supper is preserved. A fragment of a figure of a pilgrim, the only marble element datable to the Middle Ages, is walled on the facade.

The parish church is open only during religious ceremonies.
