The Vine and Wine Museum in Scansano is located in Palazzo Pretorio (Praetorian Palace) and is a true journey into the discovery of the great wine-making tradition of this town in Maremma, the birthplace of Morellino.
The exhibition unfolds across five sections that valorize a product that represents the identity of the territory.
In the Museum, the close relationship between the climate, the terrain and the wine products is documented; the techniques for production and cultivation are highlighted through objects and recipes written in dialect that play witness to the customs of the production techniques that have withstood the test of time.
The Museum also features the six DOC wines from the area, like the Bianco di Pitigliano and the Ansonica, with explanations about the areas and characteristics of the territory where they are produced, their properties, their flavours and the taste of the wine.
Particular attention is paid to the Morellino di Scansano, a DOC wine since 1978, and since the harvest of 2006 was awarded the DOCG recognition.
Morellino is one of Tuscany’s most typical wines, and has been protected by the Consorzio di Tutela del Morellino di Scansano since 1992.
