Bolgheri in front of San Guido
Excursion to discover the places made famous by the italian poet Giosuè Carducci
‘In front of San Guido, the cypresses that in Bolgheri, tall and outspoken, go from San Guido in two rows...’
Giosuè Carducci
From the famous cypress avenue, mentioned by Carducci, we will set off on this incredible itinerary to discover Bolgheri and its territory. We will visit the historic wash-houses and the Gherardesca Castle as we enter the village, where we can admire the Church of Saints James and Christopher, Carducci's house and the statue of Grandmother Lucy.
From Fonte Giulia, we will cross a superlative landscape made up of the famous Bolgheri DOC vineyards and monumental olive groves overlooking the sea surrounded by Mediterranean scrub. We will ride through the vineyards of the Biserno Estate, from where we will enjoy splendid views of Casale Marittimo and Castiglioncello di Bolgheri, and finally enter the Magona Forest Reserve at Campo di Sasso, where we will stop for lunch with picnic tables. A quick change of scenery will take us into the rugged green rock gorge of Botro di Campo di Sasso, where we will find the remains of Mulinaccio and its scenic waterfall. We will rejoin a section of the famous route ‘From the Via Francigena to the Etruscan Coast’, arriving in Bolgheri in the early afternoon just in time for a glass of wine.
The tour will take place on Sunday 8 December with departure at 10:00 a.m.
