Borgo di Querceto, views and mountains of the Val di Cecina
Panoramic excursion to explore the area around the historic castle located on the Pisan hills
It is a fort initially linked to the Volterran bishops and for centuries owned by the Ginori-Lisci family, a real strategic bulwark straddling the valleys of the Cecina, Sterza and Trossa on the slopes of Mount Aneo in the municipality of Montecatini Val di Cecina, in the province of Pisa.
A varied and exciting walk tracing the fascinating local landscape, spectacular green rock outcrops including a very curious one in the shape of an animal. We will conquer the pyramidal mass of Mount Aneo, crossing rocky and steep paths that will give us a unique panorama.
In the afternoon, we will end the tour walking through the historic streets of the beautiful village of Querceto without missing a visit to the local prestigious Enoteca (wine shop), where those who wish can buy, among others, a selection of organic wines.

The Castle of Querceto
At the centre of the village stands the castle, an architectural work of great historical value that, as a plaque attests, has undergone numerous renovations since 1907 to maintain its original form.
The Parish Church of St. John the Baptist
Initially, the building stood outside Querceto; in the 12th century, la Pieve was moved inside the village. Built in a single nave of preeminent artistic value, it has frescoes and decorations inside, including those depicting the symbols of the evangelists John and Luke looking at the figure of the infant Jesus. Restoration work has restored its original medieval characterization, restoring a profound historical and spiritual significance to this place of worship. The interior can only be visited on specific occasions.

- Distance: 12 kilometers
- Difficulty: Hiking, some steep and uneven trails

- What to bring: packed lunch, water (1 liter each), mandatory waterproof hiking or trail shoes, long pants, layered clothing (micro fleece, windproof, shell or k-way), optional trekking poles, beanie, backpack and battery charger
- Dogs allowed: to be notified when booking to verify that the maximum number of animals recommended for the hike is reached

Cancellation

The guide reserves the right to make changes to the hike to ensure the safety of the group, or to cancel the hike in case of bad weather and/or alertness.
The excursion will be confirmed upon reaching a minimum of 8 people and a maximum of 25 people.
