San Giovanni d'Asso and the white truffle
Excursion through incredible villages where the history of the medieval landscape comes to life.
On this trek through the heart of Val d'Asso, we will start from San Giovanni and head towards the village of Monterongriffoli, an ancient castle with traces of Etruscan and Roman presence, before immersing ourselves in the heart of the Crete Senesi.
This area is known for the "cerca e cavatura" of white truffles, a tradition recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in December 2021.
We will reach Chiusure, where we can admire the breathtaking view from Rocca Tolomei and visit the Church of San Michele Arcangelo. From there, we will observe from afar the solemn Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, an imposing Benedictine monastic complex of the Olivetan congregation, founded on principles of stability, symbolism, and usefulness. Captivated by the atmosphere of this enchanting place, we will return to the Crete, following a panoramic trail back to San Giovanni d'Asso.
Here, we can explore the historic village, and for those interested, participate in the "XXXVIII Edition of the White Truffle Market of the Crete Senesi," a perfect opportunity for some shopping.
The tour will take place on Sunday, November 17th, starting at 10:00 AM.
