Sources of Siena
A wonderful walk through the alleys and contrade of Siena to discover the medieval sources of the city of the Palio
The Fonti Senesi (Sources of Siena) are real architectural jewels, sometimes monumental, sometimes small country sources united by an extensive network of spoils aimed at solving the problem of water supply within the city.
With our itinerary, we will discover some of Siena's most beautiful and characteristic fountains such as Fontebranda, Fonte dell'Ovile, and Fonte del Casato, through a route that takes place among the narrow alleys of the "contrade", true urban country areas, admire wonderful views of the Torre del Mangia and the Sienese Hills while marvelling at the majesty of civic and sacred art masterpieces such as Porta ai Tufi, the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Servi and the Basilica of San Francesco.
The highlights we will visit in this proposal:
- The Sources of Siena
- Orto dei Pecci
- Basilica of the Servants
- Basilica of St. Francis
- The Contrade
The tour will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2025 with departures at 9:30 am.
