Sovicille, a territory guardian of historical and naturalistic treasures on the slopes of the Montagnola Senese, is a landscape rich in pievi, villas and medieval Castles set in a unique natural frame between splendid woods and gentle countryside.

We will walk along white roads and easy paths to discover this magical corner of Tuscany, encountering important Pievi such as that of San Giovanni Battista in Ponte allo Spino, formerly the summer residence of the Sienese Bishops, and that of Pernina recorded in a document by Maltide di Canossa.

We will admire the 17th-century Villa Cetinale famous for its Baroque garden, climb the 300 steps carved into the marble rock of the Scala Santa (Holy Staircase), reach the famous Romitorio, stop near Villa Celsa splendid defensive bulwark of the Republic of Siena, and then head towards Ancaiano. In this ancient medieval fortress, we will find the Renaissance Church of San Bartolomeo.

The hike will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, starting at 9:30 am.
