Family trek among the hills of Montalbano to discover the area during the Christmas holidays
The magic of the hill country between Empoli and Vinci at the Santa Maria a Petroio artistic nativity scene, a real gem set among the Montalbano hills.
The unique nativity scene occupies the hillside of Santa Maria a Petroio reproducing scenes of Bethlehem and the Nativity with more than 100 meticulously curated moving characters, so much so that it has been included in the national "Lands of Nativity" list.
We will admire the gentle hilly scenery as we walk along scenic paths that will take us to discover the "Cypress Road," a historic trade route that connected Vinci to the Empoli market mentioned in a 16th-century map, arrive at the Church of San Donato in Greti and continue in rural tranquility among fields and vineyards until we return to the Church of Santa Maria in Petroio famous for a venerated wooden sculpture of the Virgin and Child, ending with a visit to the fascinating artistic nativity scene in the midst of the Christmas atmosphere.
