Trekking in Pitigliano and on the Vie delle Cave
A 14-kilometre walking tour to discover the "little Jerusalem" in an area full of thousand-year history of the Tuscan Maremma
Pitigliano is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Known as the “little Jerusalem", it rises imposingly on the tufa cliffs of the valleys of the Lente, Meleta and Prochio streams, dominating the wild nature of this part of the Tuscan Maremma.
The territory inhabited since the Neolithic, with the Etruscans began the construction of the Vie Cave, ancient communication routes carved into the tuffaceous rock that we will follow with our itinerary. Through the beautiful Via Selciata, we will admire Pitigliano's profile from an unusual perspective before reaching the Londini waterfall and Via Cava Annunziata.
We will continue our route through the Vie Cave of San Giuseppe and its Necropolis, the Via Cava di Fratenuti and the Via Cava di Poggio Cani for a complete immersion in these extraordinary engineering works with which the Etruscans were able to shape the history of the landscape. We will not fail to conclude our trek through the historic streets of Pitigliano for a unique and complete experience.
The tour will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, with departure at 9:30 am.
