Valle della Luna, enchantment of stone and sea
Trekking route around the Castiglioncello esplanades in a naturalistic setting of great value
We will hike rugged trails through Mediterranean scrub that reveal sweeping views of the Tuscan Archipelago, in one of the most stunning sections of the coastal reliefs above Castiglioncello.
Our journey will take us through a magnificent natural environment of exceptional scenic value. We’ll traverse ancient ilex groves within a Mediterranean woodland, arriving at the spectacular rocky amphitheatre of Valle della Luna (Valley of the Moon), a poetic landscape of stone adorned with vibrant spring blooms.
As we venture into the distinctive “botri” of Masaccio and Fortulla, we’ll uncover the remnants of old mining tunnels at Campolecciano and Escafrullina. Our ascent will lead us to Monte Carvoli and Monte Pelato, two extraordinary panoramic viewpoints that offer unforgettable vistas of the Archipelago.
In the afternoon, we’ll return via an alternate route, passing Monte Telegrafo and the Semaforo del Montaccio, where more breathtaking coastal scenery awaits to complete this remarkable excursion.
The tour is scheduled for Sunday, May 11, 2025, with departure at 9:00 a.m.
