The exhibition "Cosimo I de Medici Magnus Dux Etruriae", opened on Saturday, November 23 at 4 p.m., can be visited until January 12 at the Archaeological Museum of Artimino.
An exhibition that celebrates Cosimo I and Giorgio Vasari through the Etruscan world, housing in this museum, located on Medici and early Etruscan land, direct evidence of the passion of the two important men for the Etruscan world.
Everything here is about the Medici and the Etruscans, and their connection, all to be discovered. It is a special opportunity given to learn about a lesser-known side of the Medici.
Open to the hills and vineyards of Montalbano, in a dominant position on the hillock that had already housed a sacred area in Etruscan times, the Medici Villa "La Ferdinanda" was built in 1596 at the behest of Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici, based on a design by Bernardo Buontalenti. “I have been today at Artimino and believe me, Your Majesty, that I found a Spring” (Sono stato hoggi à Artimino et credami Vostra Altezza che vi ho trovato un Primavera), the Grand Duke wrote to his wife Cristina of Lorraine on January 19, 1596.
Among the objects on display at Artimino: two monumental volumes, dating back to the early 18th century and printed between 1723 and 1726, a treatise on Etruscology, the reproduction made by Paolo Pinko goldsmith of the jewels (crown, scepter, toson d'oro) of Cosimo I, the portrait of the Grand Duke.
