A cultural journey through the life and works of an intellectual couple

Opening on March 27, in the rooms of Villa Bardini in Florence is the exhibition "Caravaggio and the 20th Century. Roberto Longhi, Anna Banti" a true cultural journey through the life and works of an intellectual couple - he one of the most famous art historians, she a successful writer - whose role was fundamental in 20th century Italy.

Most of the works on display in the rooms of Villa Bardini come from the Longhi Foundation, located in the hills of Florence. Roberto Longhi was the first art scholar to re-evaluate Caravaggio, and in this exhibition one can admire the Ragazzo morso da un ramarro (Boy bitten by a lizard).

Also on display are works by Jusepe de Ribera as Apostles and the exhibition of ten paintings by the Bolognese artist Giorgio Morandi, a family friend. A total of 40 paintings, drawings and watercolours can be admired in 12 rooms.

The exhibition is completed by photographs and documents testifying to the numerous contacts Anna Banti and Roberto Longhi had with Italian and foreign artists and intellectuals; the correspondence is conspicuous and absolutely interesting.
