From June 1 to September 30, the Museum of San Giovanni degli Agostiniani in Fivizzano is hosting the exhibition “Nel segno di Cosimo I de’ Medici e di Giorgio Vasari. Il secolare vincolo di fedeltà tra Firenze e Fivizzano” (In the Sign of Cosimo I de' Medici and Giorgio Vasari. The centuries-old bond of loyalty between Florence and Fivizzano”. The exhibition is dedicated to the Grand Duke of Tuscany and the artist on the 450th anniversary of their deaths.
Protagonist of the exhibition is a portrait of Cosimo I from the collections of the de' Medici Museum and attributed to Bronzino and his workshop: it is an oil on poplar panel drawn with silver point, depicting the Grand Duke on the threshold of fifty years. Cosimo I wears a dark cape with an elegant white embroidered lapel and a sumptuous collar of the Golden Fleece, a symbol of the link with Emperor Charles V. The collar is displayed alongside, in a reproduction made by Florentine master goldsmith Paolo Penko, along with the Grand Ducal Scepter and Crown.
The exhibition can be visited every day from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., except on Monday afternoons.
Free entrance.
