LA GRANDE MELA Broadway & il Musical

Tuesday, March 4, the Teatro Verdi in Florence will feature the Carnival Concert of the Orchestra della Toscana conducted by Marco Pierobon, also trumpet soloist.

The concert, titled “La Grande Mela. Broadway & il Musical” (The Big Apple. Broadway & the Musical), is a tribute to the city that more than any other has marked the musical imagination of the 20th century: New York. A journey between film, jazz and musical theater that pays tribute to three giants of composition: Ennio Morricone, John Kander and George Gershwin.

New York is dream and ambition, rhythm and modernity, and on this evening its essence comes to life through arrangements that enhance its unique character. The boundless ocean and the promise of a new life resonate in Morricone's notes for The Legend of 1900, where a cry rips through the silence and the piano creeps in like a wave carrying destiny.
Then the twinkling lights of Broadway come on with Kander, author of seductive, irony-laden melodies capable of turning each song into a little show within a show: from the magnetism of All That Jazz to the mocking energy of Cell Block Tango, via the sarcasm and theatricality ofWe Both Reached for the Gun
Finally, New York becomes a symphony with Gershwin, where swing meets orchestra, and jazz merges with cultured music: from Fascinatin' Rhythm to the Concerto in F, to the overwhelming emotion of the pages of Porgy and Bess, with its blend of blues, gospel and timeless lyricism. A concert about the city that never sleeps, with its music made of light and shadow, euphoria and melancholy.

A celebration of the myth of Broadway and the musical, the beating heart of the Big Apple, where every note is a story and every melody a journey through time and space.
