Indigo blue, denim blue: the colour of jeans, of work clothes, the clothing of young people. To this colour so important in our societies and in the history of costume is dedicated an exhibition taking place at the Manifattura Campus of Polimoda, in the spaces of Manifattura Tabacchi.
And so what may seem like a simple clothing exhibition - blue r/evolution - is not just an exhibition about clothing, but rather a profound reflection on how a single fabric can reflect, challenge and redefine social narratives.
On the theme of jeans, historical archives, art installations, photographs and garments were combined: the result is an event that invites the visitor to reflect on the relationship between clothing, personal identity and the social transformations of our time.
The exhibition is interesting not only for the sociological aspects of our world but also for the more purely local ones.
First of all, the location: we are in the archives of Polimoda, a space "devoted" to fashion, but set in a context that was manufacturing.
The exhibition also gives space to the private archive of Roy Roger's, a jeans manufacturer based in Campi Bisenzio (close to Florence) and the first company to produce this type of garment in Italy since the early 1950s.
Photographs and publications complete the exhibition.
The exhibition was inaugurated during Pitti Uomo, on January 14, and will end on February 15.
Free admission from Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 7 pm.
