In Florence, over 50 works to illustrate Michelangelo's relationship with power

From October 18, 2024, to January 26, 2025, Palazzo Vecchio forecasts the exhibition Michelangelo and the Power: this great event, which runs between the Sala delle Udienze and the Sala dei Gigli, includes a selection of more than 50 works including sculptures, paintings, drawings, autograph letters and plaster casts - the result of exceptional loans from prestigious institutions - chosen to illustrate Michelangelo's relationship with power, his political vision and his determination to place himself on an equal footing with the powerful of the earth.

Highlight of the exhibition is the bust of Brutus, on loan from the Bargello National Museum, a sort of political manifesto of the artist. 

n the Sala dei Gigli are a series of portraits by famous artists are displayed (primarily that of Michelangelo, executed by his friend Giuliano Bugiardini): those of Friar Girolamo Savonarola, Pier Soderini, Cosimo I de' Medici, Vittoria Colonna, Pope Leo X etc. 

Famous drawings by the artist are completing the collection together with the setting up of a sort of gipsoteca dedicated to Michelangelo, with casts of some of his major works, all linked for various reasons to the artist's relations with the greats of the time.
