Autumn Colors and Flavors

The Garfagnana and the Mid Serchio Valley is a land rich in woods, centuries-old chestnut groves, hills and mountains that in the autumn season are tinged with a thousand colors. 

Among the absolute stars of this period is definitely the chestnut, both as a culinary product and for its history and the beauty of the forests where it grows. The Chestnut tree was also called the “bread tree” in the past, because of its essential role in the survival of the people of these rugged valleys (in fact, it was once among the few sources of income and livelihood).

The festival and celebrations which enliven the villages in this period are the occasion to enjoy traditional dishes that enhance this fruit.
