A large chestnut festival to celebrate autumn

For more than 50 years, every Sunday in October, Marradi has celebrated the fruits of autumn and in particular the Marron Buono, the best known and most important local product. A crowded festival based on "bruciate" (roasted chestnuts), tortelli and chestnut cake, castagnaccio and marrons glacés.

The Chestnut and Marron Buono Festival, now renamed the Marron Buono Exhibition Market in Marradi, involves the entire historic center, in a succession of stalls selling chestnuts and other gastronomic specialties, tastings of typical dishes and sweets, as well as sales of handicrafts. Plus, entertainment and animation with street performers and traveling musicians.

The October Sundays of the Exhibition Market are also an opportunity for a trip out of town to admire the autumn colors of nature. It is a romantic moment made even more evocative by the possibility of reaching Marradi on an old-fashioned steam train through the woods of the Apennines.
