The Festival Toscano di Musica Antica - Risonanze (Tuscan Festival of Early Music - Resonances) is a musical journey and cultural itinerary that takes place over two long weekends in the heart of Pisa, with an additional special event in the Cathedral of Barga.
From June 22 to July 7, a program of concerts, guided tours and events at some of the city's most striking locations.
With two concerts a day, the Festival hosts some of the most important early music ensembles on the international scene, such as Jordi Savall (June 30), Auser Musici (July 4 in Barga, July 5 in Pisa), La Venexiana with soprano Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli (July 6) and the Imaginarium Ensemble with Enrico Onofri, violin and director (July 7). The afternoon and evening concerts will take place at the cloisters of the Sapienza Palace, reopened in 2018 after extensive restoration. Special venue for the July 4 concert, however, will be the Cathedral of San Cristoforo in Barga.
The places that will be the subject of free guided tours in the afternoon before the concerts are: the Monumental Cemetery, which preserves Buffalmacco's spectacular fresco “Il Trionfo della Morte” (The Triumph of Death), the Ussero's Hanging Garden of Palazzo Agostini Venerosi della Seta, one of the oldest palaces in Pisa, the Spiaggia del Gombo, a place not usually accessible to the public, within the protected area of San Rossore Park; the National Museum of St. Matteo, which holds a treasure trove of picturesque and sculptural wonders; the Museum of Ancient Ships, which represents Pisa's historic Maritime Republic connection with navigation; and the recently restored Bastione del Parlascio.
