Simple cookies that boast a very ancient history

Zuccherini di Vernio are sweet, plain, donut-shaped cookies with a distinct anise flavor.
After baking, they are dipped in melted sugar, which gives them their typical white color.
They are produced year-round in the village of Vernio but also throughout the Valle del Bisenzio, encompassing the towns of Vaiano and Cantagallo.
What makes these Zuccherini so traditional is the special combination of ingredients and being hand-made, aspects that have remained unchanged over time.
In the Valle del Bisenzio, these traditional Tuscan cookies were prepared for wedding feasts. In fact, the donut shape is reminiscent of a wedding ring.

Characteristics

Gastronomy

These cookies keep for a long time because they are very dry. Precisely because of their consistency, they are commonly enjoyed after being dipped in Vin Santo, milk, coffee or even wine!
