Exploring Tuscany’s most beautiful beaches

Sun, sea and nature: these are Tuscany's vacation gift to you. A fun-filled environment full of places to discover with a costal setting perfect for everyone. After diving into the region’s beautiful sea, take a stroll around the historical center of local historic towns. The day can’t end without a trip to nearby museums and squares, where visitors can discover the area’s monuments and sample traditional cuisine at a local tavern or trattoria. Then put on your dancing shoes and go for a twirl or spend the evening chatting away in a pub or elegant café.

The Etruscan coast is an Italian treasure filled with beautiful gems. In Castiglioncello you’ll find a sandy beach with stony ridges known for their pristine beauty. Try your hand at snorkeling and admire the multi-colored, marine life swimming under the sea. Next, experience the wide, fine-sand beaches in Vada, where beach resorts and free beaches dot the landscape.

Don’t miss learning more about the territory where Giosue Carducci, the famed Italian poet, was born. Marina di Donoratico’s historical center is surrounded by top-notch beach resorts, while the north and south side of town boast kilometers of clean, free beaches  just steps away from a lush pine forest. In Marina di Bibbona you’ll have a chance to visit ‘Tombola Beach’ near Cecina’s nature reserve, ‘Riserva dei Tomboli.' Otherwise, take a walk to the town’s central beach, which is just a hop, skip and a jump from the city center.

Those who prefer visiting beaches that are far from the buzz of city crowds can relax at Baratti and Populonia. On Monte Massoncello, just north of Piombino, you’ll find beaches and reefs that can only be reached by sea, nature trails and the fire-escape road that connects Piombino to Populonia.
 
The Litorale Pisano features the Marina di Pisa, Tirrenia and Calambrone south of the Arno River, and Marina di Vecchiano to the north. This area is nestled within the Regional Nature Park of Migliarino San Rossore Massicuccoli and offers a coast teeming with beach-club establishments and unspoilt sand and surf.

The Silver coast is waiting for you! Enjoy following small trails to discover hidden bays where you can get away from it all (even during high season). Many sea resorts are perfect for families with children or for a younger crowd looking for a bit of excitement. Try Cala Galera and Il Purgatorio located in the famed Porto Ercole. Or visit Macchiatonda, La Torba and Chiarone in Capalbio or Patannella and La Giannella in Orbetello… just to name a few marvels of the Argentario.

The Maremma is a place with many sides; its northern coast is the area's wildest side offering a more isolated landscape. The southern side is equipped with more services and boasts seaside towns considered the hippest areas. Here, tourists of all types can find just what they’re looking for. Why not relax and experience the seaside like never before? The differently-abled can also look to Tuscany for easy-access options, particularly in Follonica and Marina di Grosseto.

In Marciana Marina don’t miss a visit to small but unforgettable sites like Le Sprizze, Crocetta, Fenicia and Redinoce. Those looking for more worldly adventures should head to Porto Azzurro, while beach lovers won’t want to miss Reale, Terranera, Barbarossa, Pianotta and La Rossa Mola.
